BUILT DIFFERENT

Three Principals. No Junior Staff on Lead Engagements.

AJM Solutions was built around a specific gap in the Alberta market: most businesses between $5M and $100M don’t have access to senior financial expertise that’s genuinely independent and data-grounded.

Arthur Madden

Founder — Financial Advisory & Data Diagnostics
30+ years in energy sector finance. CFO and VP Finance across public and private companies.

Arthur’s career spans three decades of senior financial leadership in Alberta’s energy sector. He has served as CFO and VP Finance at Cavell Energy, Adamant Energy, Crown Point Energy, and Painted Pony Energy — companies ranging from private startups to TSX-listed producers. He joined AJM Solutions in 2019.

His focus is the financial infrastructure gap that exists in most owner-led businesses in the $5M–$50M range: management reporting that doesn’t support decisions, financial data that won’t survive buyer due diligence, and EBITDA figures that haven’t been normalized. The Data Diagnostic is built around his methodology for identifying and quantifying these gaps quickly and without disrupting operations.

Arthur leads all Data Diagnostic engagements and the financial advisory work that follows. His instinct is direct: find the number that matters, show where it is in the data, and build the path to improving it.

Michael Cooper

Founder — Operations & MENA Engagements
44 years in oil & gas. 38 internationally. Former Senior Operations Manager, ADWOC — the only Pan-Arab drilling and workover company in the MENA region.

Michael is a senior operations and logistics executive with over 44 years in the oil and gas sector, including 38 years of international experience across North America, MENA, and Europe. He has held full operational and financial accountability, led multinational teams, and negotiated high-value contracts with major oil and gas clients — including directing large-scale asset movements during active conflicts in Iraq and Libya.

His career spans the full range of operational complexity: from remote Arctic island drilling operations on Melville and Cameron Islands, to building and leading a specialised heavy transport company in the desert, to serving as Senior Operations Manager for ADWOC — the only Pan-Arab drilling and workover company in the MENA region, collectively owned by all OAPEC member nations — where he operated across ten countries and negotiated contracts with major international operators.

At AJM, Michael leads MENA engagements. He also joins supply chain and operational diagnostic work where field experience shapes what the data is asked to show. His core instinct — that the most expensive losses hide between systems that were never compared — was developed across decades of operations where the gap between the records and the reality was measured in millions of dollars a year.

Michael Yeung

Senior Advisor — Succession & Transaction Structuring
Buy-side background across PE, investment banking, institutional sales, and equity research.

Michael Yeung spent his career evaluating businesses as a potential investor or acquirer — in equity research at Clarus Securities and Stonecap, institutional sales and investment banking at Casimir Capital, and as Director of Investments at Second City Capital Partners. He has structured and evaluated transactions across oil & gas, mining, renewables, cannabis, and technology.

That’s what most sell-side advisors don’t have. Accountants, lawyers, and CBV firms bring technical competence in their disciplines. What they don’t bring is the mental model of what an acquirer concludes when they review your financials — what they discount for, what they flag, and what makes them lower their offer or walk away.

Michael leads succession advisory engagements at AJM. His role is to ensure that the financial preparation work Arthur and the team produce is built around what a buyer will actually look for — not what looks good in a set of audited statements. He also advises on capital structure, debt advisory, and financing strategy for businesses navigating growth or transition.

What AJM Is and Isn’t

Scope Clarity Matters

Most engagements go sideways when scope isn’t clear upfront. Here’s exactly what AJM is and isn’t.

AJM Is

  • A financial advisory firm for operating businesses
  • A pre-market preparation partner for succession
  • A fractional CFO resource for $5M–$100M businesses
  • Independent — no deal-completion fees, no referral dependency
  • Data-grounded — every recommendation is tied to your actual numbers
  • Buyer-side informed — we know what acquirers look for
  • Flat-fee where possible — no billing ambiguity

AJM Is Not

  • An M&A banker or licensed deal agent
  • A law firm or legal advisor
  • A public accounting or audit firm
  • A Chartered Business Valuator (we coordinate with CBVs)
  • A business broker
  • A strategy consultant focused on growth stage
  • A replacement for your accountant
Our Approach

How We Work

Data First

Every engagement starts with a diagnostic. We don’t make recommendations based on what you tell us — we make them based on what your data shows. The two are often different.

Fixed Scope, Fixed Fee

Each phase has a defined scope and a fixed fee. You know what you’re committing to before you commit. There are no open-ended retainers with undefined deliverables.

Three Principals, No Juniors on Lead Work

You work with the people who have the expertise — not a relationship partner who delegates to staff. The three principals who appear on this page are the three people who work on your file.

Independent of Transaction Fees

We earn our fee from advisory work, not from deal completion. That keeps our incentive aligned with your preparation quality, not your deal velocity. We have no reason to rush you to market unprepared.

A Conversation Costs Nothing.

45 minutes. We learn about your business and your timeline. If there’s a fit, we’ll tell you what we’d do and what it would cost.
